13 Days of Halloween: Whuhdjamacallit

Real Scary

The following are beings that actually exist, but they must be the foundation of many a supernatural legend. Featured below are the Saiga Antelope, Aye Aye, Star-Nosed Mole, Angora Rabbit, Coconut Crab, and Chinese Giant Salamander.

For entry into the contest, tell me what supernatural legend (real or made-up) is based on one of these creatures!

  1. Okay, I'm clueless, but I'll guess that the antelope inspired the unicorn. And that rabbit certainly looks like a Tribble.

  2. Uggg, that salamander is truly frightening. This coming from a total wuss, of course.

  6. Just as I was about to go to bed, now I can't because I'll have dang nightmares. Thanks Trisha.

I think the Mole creeps me out the most and reminds me of ROUSes--you know, Rodents of Unusual Size from The Princess Bride. That thing used the scare the crud out of me when I was a kiddo (until I realized it's just a man in an ROUS costume).

  7. The Aye Aye is considered a harbinger of death in Madagascar. Go Wikipedia!

  8. Trish - I'm with you on the nightmares. These animals are terrifying. And props for the Princess Bride reference! Best movie!

Cara - Gotta love wikipedia. Man it doesn't look like a harbinger of death...strange.
