This week is a FREEBIE, meaning I can do a top 10 of anything I durn well choose; although I assume it should be bookish in nature. :) Both because I think it's an interesting topic and because I think it will help me get organized, my topic is:
Top 10 Series I Need to Freaking Finish
Gregory Maguire's The Wicked Years
1 down, 3 to go
George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire
2 down, 3 to go
Lev Grossman's The Magicians
2 down, 1 to go
Justin Cronin's The Passage
1 down, 2 to go
Bill Willingham's Fables
4 down, approx 13 to go
Neil Gaiman's The Sandman
4 down, 6 to go
Ally Condie's Matched
1 down, 2 to go
Leigh Bardugo's Grisha
1 down, 2 to go
Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments
5 down, 1 to go
Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials
4 down, 1 to go
So which should I finish first?
Well here's a case in which not splitting the infinitive just wouldn't work. As for what I know about the books, Clare goes downhill, in my opinion, as does Condie. I haven't read Martin but he has rabid fans! (Well, so do Clare and Condie for that matter....)
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any of these, except Fables. I read a couple of them and never went further. They were good but I got distracted. AND I'M THINKING OF YOU!!!
ReplyDeleteHard but I'll vote for Sandman and His Dark Materials - both enormous formative influences on me.
ReplyDeleteHm. Here's what I know about said series (skipping ones about which I know nothing):
ReplyDelete- I loved books 1 & 2 of Song of Fire and Ice. Then I read the third, hated it, and donated the rest of the series without bothering... :/
- both The Magicians and the Golden Compass were both NOs for me, so I can't comment beyond the first book.
- Matched was the best of the three.
- Shadow and Bone was also the best of the three, though the 2nd one is good, and the 3rd...well, excellent for 99.9% of it and then 0.1% just ruined it for me, though other people love that 0.1% so who am I to judge?
So if I had to vote? Go Leigh Bardugo!
OMG don't even get me STARTED on series I haven't finished! *hides head under pile of unread books*
ReplyDeleteThere are so many on this list I've either started and not finished, bought and not started or really, really want. I'm pretty sure I'll never finish the Song of Ice and Fire books though because they're so long and there are so many characters and also EVERYONE DIES. Which is just depressing.
I wish you all the luck with finishing these this year - if anyone can do it, you can!
