The Short and Sweet of It
Sookie finds herself once again immersed in a world of supernatural politics: vampires, werewolves, and werepanthers all involve her in their battles in this fast-paced if a bit jumbled book.

A Bit of a Ramble
Sookie's still stuck in the middle of vampires, weres, and other supes in this installment.  The main difference in this book - no sex.  Seriously, Sookie doesn't get any nookie in this one which is an amazing change from prior books.  I kept waiting to see who her next hook-up was going to be, but no go.

As for the story itself, a whole bunch of violence occurs, practically unrelated to each other, so in the end, this felt more like a collection of dangerous situations than a cohesive story. And yet, I didn't mind this fragmented structure so much as I reasoned it was the result of transition.  From Dead to Worse ties together the multiple plot lines which have peppered the series so far, ending some of them, manipulating some, and introducing readers to new plot lines which will motivate future books in the series.

As always, the book reads fast, Sookie annoys me a bit, Bill annoys me even more, and I still liked it.  And Eric is still sexiness personified.

  1. Sookie can annoy me too but I still love her and the series!

  2. I read the first book in this series. I got a kick out of it, but I didn't fall in love with it. And that scene with Sookie and Bill in the graveyard was beyond disgusting.

Have you watched any episodes of True Blood. A friend loaned me the first season so I could try it, but I have yet to take a look.

  3. These books just go from bad to worse that should be the title. However that being said I do read them all...

  4. I'm slowly working on this series (I'm only done with Book 2) but I can't imagine a Sookie book without sex!

  5. Can I just say how much I hate that cover? Her face looks all crooked.

  6. Jill - Exactly!

Stephanie - I've watched the first two seasons, and I have to say it's quite enjoyable...in the same way the book is.

    Pam - That's exactly how I feel!

Jenners - I know! My world was totally rocked.

Jill - I had not noticed that, but now I can't stop looking at the weird shape of her face.

  11. Great review. I so enjoy this series, even though I feel like hiding the covers so people can't see what i'm reading sometimes =o)

And I totally agree with your summaries of Bill and Eric.
