I've made the short list for the Best Eclectic Book Blog for Book Blogger Appreciation Week (BBAW) and I so completely thrilled I could pee my pants with excitement.
Twenty-seven blogs were part of the long list, and the amazing judges have narrowed it down to seven for the short list. The other nominees are:
These are all amazing blogs, and I'm tickled pink to be counted among them.
Okay, enough about the blog and back to actual books. I'm currently reading Dracula, My Love by Syrie James, and I'm loving it. Told from Mina Harker's point of view, the book recaps the events of the original Dracula with a twist. So far I've been most impressed by James' ability to stay true to the original text. Actually, James has managed to logically rectify many of the inconsistencies and contradictions in the original text, adding an amazing validity to the story. It is a very strange feeling to be reading this book right after reading the original and watching the movie. On the one hand, I feel a deep familiarity with the world; on the other hand, I'm getting a bit confused as to what happens in the original v. the film v. the spin-off.
In other news, I'm joining two new challenges: the Really Old Classics Challenge and the YA Dystopian Reading Challenge. I've finished the majority of my challenges; although I can't seem to let them go, and I keep adding new books to the lists. I'm very excited for these two challenges as the first will get me back to pre-blogging reading habits and the second as it will further my post-blogging reading preference.
Finally, I want to give a big thank you to the wonderful bloggers who were kind enough to take care of things while I was away with family. The reunion and Gladiolus Festival were tons of fun, and while I missed all of you (and reading), it was really nice to be unplugged for a full two weeks. This is for my guest posters:
I saw you on that list! Way to go girl! Did you see I was the only one on the list for Audio books? What the hell? How can I even feel proud of that? I hope you had a wonderful time with your family. It was fun to read all of the guest posts, and our pleasure to help out.
