The TBR Dare

Title: The TBR Dare
Host: James
Timeframe: January - March 31

James dares us to pledge to read only the books in our TBR (To Be Read) stack for as long as we dare starting January 1, 2011.

One hour, one day, one book, one week, one month, or until the dare ends on April 1.

I'm going for it. I am vowing to not purchase a book for three months. Even the idea of it is giving me nasty chills, but with 300+ TBR books, I think it's a necessary step on the road to recovery, especially with BBC/BEA coming up in May.

I am not putting together a list or anything for this one - 300+, no need for a list. Here's to reading what we own instead of buying what strikes our fancy!

  1. Haha! I'm going to do it too. But then I am finding myself running around, buying things on my Kindle and at the bookstore, before January 1st. I am such a mess.

  2. I wish I could do this, but alas, I have book clubs that I must pull library books out for, so it's not happening!

  4. Hah you guys are all champs but there is NO way I could make it through this. With my free yer of 2 days amazon shipping, I am abusing it at all costs! Best of luck.

  6. My bookshelves could use this challenge! I just got an e-reader for my vacation over the holidays so I will download some stuff to it before the trip but then I will just read from my shelves. Thanks for highlighting this one!

  8. I am doing the same thing that Sandy is doing. Hahaha might be defeating the purpose, yes? Anyways, I'm looking forward to it. I must put a dent in my TBR shelves.

  10. Oh goodness, no! We authors COUNT on seducing you away from your TBR pile with the siren call of beautiful covers and NewNewNew work.

As a reader, there's no way I could do this. I will not be held back from the intense pleasure of browsing and buying (or checking out) new books. Do you hear me? Will. Not. Be. Held. Back.

But just so we're clear, I can quit my book buying addiction any time I want.

  11. Welcome aboard the TBR Dare and thanks for posting about it. I think it's going to be fun to see how long everyone can hold out.

    It's a little like Survivor.

  12. I think I'm going to do this one too. And with 300+ books on your shelves, I doubt you will suffer.

  13. I love this! I signed up, but with the exception of books I need for challenges, readalongs, and projects to which I've already committed. I'll hopefully be getting most of those from the library!

  14. This is such a good dare -- good luck not buying books for that long! I am thinking I'll sign up for it, but I don't know if I can't buy any books for that long. I do have a very full TBR shelf that needs to be taken care of though.
