The term To-Do carries two meanings: first, it can refer to a list of things to do and second, it can refer to some sort of commotion or dramatic problem. The Start of Term for me means a lot of both. Succinctly put, my to-do list and the to-dos are the result of my SERIOUS PROCRASTINATION PROBLEM (SPP). The SPP took hold of me early on in summer, and the disease stuck with me, actually increasing in intensity, as the summer months wore on. Now, I'm here at the start of the semester approximately 75% ready, and all readiness was accomplished in the last two weeks. Are there pills for SPP?
To top things off, I seem incapable of getting through the to-do list and hence minimizing the to-dos because I've fallen dramatically in love with A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin. I will probably have a second post, covering the next 120 pages or so, up sometime this week. So while I am making progress on my reading, and some progress on my blogging, I am A BAD TEACHER and totally procrastinating on lesson plans.
Now I've spent 15 minutes writing this post instead of planning for Tuesday's class.....
Oh, I love the acronym SPP! It could also mean SEVERE as well (thinking especially of myself in that regard!)
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate. I am a horrible procrastinator.

Heh good luck! I think SPP affects many of us - and I love the acronym!
ReplyDeleteGood luck getting ready for classes to start! I took yesterday and turned it into a massive Game of Thrones read-a-thon and managed to finish the entire book. Wow, what a twisty turny book! I have to wait a bit, but I'll definitely be reading A Clash of Kings.
ReplyDeleteJill - Severe is probably a good word to put in there. :)
ReplyDeleteJehara - It's such a bad habit, but it feels so good for so long. :)
Amy - It does seem to be a universal disease... so why no cure yet?
Kim - Holy crap! You finished it! I'm only in the 200s so far.
I'm so good at being a SPP. Justification for my actions is my gig. It's too hot outside. My foot hurts. My cat is acting sick. The cable guy is going to show up any minute and I need to hear the doorbell. The thing that keeps me honest is my husband. If I don't get my crap done, he will make me go back to work.
ReplyDeleteLOL good luck!! That SPP bug is nasty. :D
ReplyDeleteI got a little caught up this weekend and now I'm struck down with Greyson's latest daycare-induced cold. Ugg. *zombie moans*
ReplyDeleteI feel ya.
I'm singing: You dow with SPP? Yah you know me. Hahahaha lovin' the flashback of early 90's.
ReplyDeleteAnd seriously I am so feeling you with SPP and the desire for a pill.
Cheers to a new semester.
I always loved going back to school (well, college — everything before that was just lame), but I've never had the experience of going back as a teacher. Learning is one of my favorite things to do, and it's hard to find new stuff to learn once you leave the Ivory Tower and have to (pretend to) be a grown-up. :p
ReplyDeleteI know you'll be ready for the semester. Remember to stop and breathe now and then. Good luck!
I also have this problem, and it strikes me everyday around the same time. I need to really get my butt in gear, but I am so far behind by now that it feels like a lost cause!
ReplyDeleteHa! I totally had the same issue this week. All I had to do was tweak my syllabi and even still, I was up until after midnight last night doing so. And I had to be up at 615 this morning to make my first class. I have been doing this long enough to know better, and yet...
ReplyDeleteI think SPP is related to PVSD. Post vacation stress disorder. You might be suffering from that, too. It's main symptom is a serious lack of motivation following any vacation. Accompanied by feelings of overwhelmedness.
ReplyDeleteFor me SPP isn't just a problem, it's an entire way of life. :-P
