Top Ten Tuesday: Loved But Not Blogged

Top Ten Tuesday is an on-going meme hosted over at The Broke and the Bookish. Each week a new topic is given and participants get to post lists! And who doesn't like lists?!?!?!

This week's topic is: Books You Loved But Never Wrote A Review For

I read so many books before blogging that this isn't really a fair question for me. With over 1000 to choose from, how do you pick just ten? Well, I'll tell you what I did; I listed the first ten to pop into my head. :) The links are to Amazon

1. The Crimson Petal and the White by Michel Faber: Prostitute. Mad Wife. Unwilling Heir.
2. The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde: Vacations in books. Alternative history.
3. Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert Heinlein: Man from Mars. Free Love. Can you grok it?
4. The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende: Latin America. Four generations. Magical Realism.
5. Henry and June by Anais Nin: True story. An Affair. Sexual Awakening.
6. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte: Plain, self-reliant woman finds love with brooding man.
7. Winesburg Ohio by Sherwood Anderson: 22 Short stories. Loneliness. A small town.
8. Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien: Epic good versus evil. Kick-ass hobbits.
9. Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides: Family saga. Bildungsroman. Intersexuality.
10. White Oleander by Janet Fitch: Crazy mom-daughter relationship. Foster-homes.

I wish I had time to write at least a solid paragraph for each book; unfortunately my procrastination must come to an end.

What books do you love but have yet to review?

  1. I find classics and densely plotted books just too hard to review! Sometimes I just write impressions, but I usually post those just to LibraryThing but not to the blog! (of course I can't think of any specifics at the moment...)

  2. I keep considering White Oleander.

  3. Most of my top ten ever books came before I blogged. Pat Conroy's Beach Music. Ken Follett's Pillars of the Earth. My Life in France by Julia Child. In Cold Blood. Smilla's Sense of Snow. And on and on.

But on Jill's topic, I have to review EAst of Eden soon, and I have no idea how. I'm putting it off.

  4. A few of these books I loved but didn't blog about either. They were before the blog's time. I LOVED The Crimson Petal and the White, and I have seriously been thinking that one needs a reread. I also loved White Oleander as well. This was a fantastic list!

  6. I've heard really great things about the Eyre Affair - I need to get my hands on that one!

  7. Most of the ones I haven't reviewed are pre-blogging, though there have been a couple since where I didn't write anything. There are tons of them, I'm sure, but I tried to think up some of my favourite ones that I hadn't reviewed.

  8. I couldn't help but start laughing when I saw number one on your list because The Crimson Petal and the White is one that I just could NOT read and after 150 pages or so, I was like "WHERE IS THE PLOT?" and now I see it on your list and wonder if I should give it another go...

  9. The Eyre Affair is on my list too. There's just so much meat to it (and the entire series) that I don't even know where to begin.

I almost put Jane Eyre on the list as well, but I realized it's in my queue to read for the Gothic Reading Challenge, so I'll have to review it then. An intimidating thought.

  10. Great list. Now I'm wondering if I reviewed Jane Eyre on my blog. I think I did.

  11. I do love Isabel Allende! For me, she's kind set the standard for magical realism.

  12. I adore your few sentence summaries of each one. Amazing how you can get to the essence of a book so quickly. I might have to do a post like this.

  13. So many good books, so little time to blog about them. I feel your pain :)

  14. Awesome list. I think the way you managed to sum all those book up in a few words is amazing, and the list is pretty funny too. :)
