Challenge Update

Due to my four month hiatus, my challenges are really suffering this year. Plus, I've found I am more interested in readalongs than challenges this year. But just to wrap my mind around what's going on, here's an update on the challenges I thought I would be completing.

COMPLETED
TwentyEleven Challenge: 20/20
Steampunk Challenge:  7 read
GLBT(Q): 10+ (including GLBTQ-positive if not GLBTQ-centric; less than I wanted)
Dystopia Challenge: 5/5 (less than my original hope for 15)

STILL WORKING ON IT
Take a Chance: 4/10
Gothic Challenge: 1/10
Graphic Novels: 2/10
Read a Myth: 0/4

Obviously the challenges I haven't completed are not going well at all, at all. Honestly, I am not going to really worry about finishing these challenges. Not because I don't want to - I do - but because I'm just not into the stress of it right now.

How are you guys doing on challenges?

  1. I boycotted challenges this year, with the exception of RIP and an ongoing Amy Einhorn thing. I've decided this is the way to go. I have never had a better reading year ever! And no guilt!

  2. Argh - I'm scared to look at the state of mine :S With the exception of the Graphic Novels one, I don't think I'll complete a single one.

  3. I'm way behind as well...but I'm going to spend the entire month of October reading for R.I.P. VI :)

  4. I am so bad this year that even my challenge page isn't updated to include the posts telling about the challenges I signed up for! Which means I have no good tracking system set up. In fact, funny that you mention this, I just last night remembered that I was doing the What's in a Name and finally found my post telling the books I hoped to read. I've read ONE. (sigh)

  5. I decided a long time ago (heh, a few months ago...O) that challenges were just not for me. I do like readalongs. Especially if the folks are on twitter. I feel the closest to my years as an undergrad. Plus, I don't have a book club around town. :)

  6. I am so sporadic with challenges. I'll have a good year where I finish them all and then the next year I don't finish any. This year I didn't sign up for any save for the R.I.P. challenge. I may think about joining some next year. This year, my heart just wasn't in it. I don't know what has been up with my reading this year, but I am reading less and less often. I guess I just needed a break.

    I haven't tried a readalong yet.

    Also, I'd like those shelves.

  7. Every year, I get so gung-ho about joining challenges, and then never get around to completing them. I have so many outside stresses in my life that I can't get too involved in the stress of finishing all the challenges as well, so now I don't even bother to join them. I still like to live vicariously through those who do work to complete challenges, but I just can't ever see myself being one of those people.

  9. Great photo! I love it. I think lots of people have been doing more read-a-longs than challenges this year. I only signed up for RIP since I had books on my TR that fit already, otherwise I never do challenges because I suck at them!

  10. LOL I thought about my challenges this morning, and decide to brush those thoughts away! A few I'm doing well, some, not so much. good idea for a post though.

  12. Not a bad record at all. I think my challenge participation is sagging more, too.

  13. I suck at challenges. I am only in two at the moment. RIP is going well--I have already read 4 books for it. The Europa challenge is a little more slow going.

  14. I'm not doing particularly well with my challenges, either. I would like to finish them, but I'm not going to force myself to.

  15. I gave up challenges for Lent. Or maybe it was my New Year's resolution. Like you, readalongs are more my thing these days.

  16. Think blogger ate my comment yesterday. :(

Challenges? What are those? Crap...my original comment has escaped me.

  17. I kind of scaled the challenges way back this year (only 3) and I'm doing OK with them and realize I don't think I want to do ANY except RIP next year. I just like the freedom of reading what I want without any pressure -- even when it is self-imposed.
