The Baby Bump

Time for a baby update. On September 21, I went in for an ultrasound and found out I'm having a girl! I put the exclamation point in there to highlight my happiness at knowing what I'm going to have, not because of the gender. I honestly didn't care whatsoever. I figure girls are more fun for the first 10 years; then boys are better for the next 10; and who the heck knows once they hit 20. :) I was just happy to hear that The Floppy Alien (now Alienette) inside of me looks healthy. While I'm not as nervous as I was in the beginning, I still get the occasional twinge of worry.

I wish I could put up some pictures of her, but the disk the hospital gave me is a whole program, not just some files. It's pretty cool because I have video as well as stills. In one she's in a sort of on-all-fours-position; then you can see her legs straighten out and her butt slam into my side. It's pretty cool. Another is a front view of her face, and it looks like a perfect skull, which I find pretty awesome.

*****Amanda reminded me about screen capture, so here are some pics!*****

Here she is on her back.
And now she's facing you and her face looks so like a skeleton!
Here, she facing down. I love the glowing spine.

I love these creepy pictures! We don't have a name picked out yet, but we do have a starter list:

Riley
Ashlyn
Kaelyn
Maia
Callie

Feel free to weigh in, or suggest another name if you have one you really like. We are still pretty open at this point. While The Floppy Alienette is still super small, my body is certainly expanding. My waist is doubling daily (okay that may be an exaggeration) and the bubbies have certainly grown (two cup sizes). The pic below shows both areas a bit:

That's my mom on the left. Gorgeous, isn't she? Definitely a pain to grow up with such a hottie for a mommie. :) Here's a side angle for a bit more of the baby bump:
That was a few weeks ago, so the stomach has rounded out quite a bit since then. Despite the annoyance of enlarging body parts, I'm having a pretty good pregnancy. I slept for a few weeks, but after that things really smoothed out. No nausea, no food cravings, no food rejections. I'm one lucky chica as far as all that goes. I figure it's the universe making up for the extreme anxiety of two miscarriages.

My biggest complaints are slightly swollen feet and an extreme lack of clothing options. I have to drive an hour or more in order to have any sort of selection, and then each piece costs an obscene quantity of money. I just can't seem to lay down $75 for a maternity shirt that I may only wear for three months. I'm cheaper than that.

My local Target, Kohl's, Penney's, and Carson's have maternity sections with approximately three shirts, two types of jeans, and your standard black and gray dress pants. And most of them are sized Extra Small, a size I have never seen in my entire life. I'm a chunky girl to begin with, so Large or Extra Large are my friends.

So there you have it; the most recent news and complaints in my pregnancy journey. I haven't started buying anything yet; although I must say that I'm a giant fan of this:

Just to have one bookish part to the post: No, I'm not reading any books about babies or pregnancy. I did my first time around, and it just freaked me out. :)

  1. Seeing you and hearing you talk about all of this makes my heart swell. You look adorable, and yes your mom is a hottie! And I say you get the bedding. You have earned it (or WILL earn it).

  2. Holy cow, your mom looks more like your sister! Great to know you have those genes going on! I agree with Sandy - you look adorable!

  3. Screenshots! Is there any way you can play the disk on your computer and screen-shot us ultrasound pictures?

I love your baby bump. :D That's just awesome, and I'm so glad you've had a fairly pain-free pregnancy. You deserve it, like you said!

With my last pregnancy, I found a great place that sold maternity clothes in Platteville. They were a kids resale shop, but also resold maternity clothes, and many of the ones I got were $50 Kohl's shirts with the tags still on them, and I got them for $5 each. It was awesome. You should check around at some kids' resale stores near you and see if there's any that have maternity as well. The one in Platteville didn't advertise their maternity clothes anywhere - you just had to be in the know. :D

  4. Congratulations on your baby girl! I had the same problem finding clothes when I was pregnant too. Out here in SoCal, I could only find large or extra-large and I need an extra small.

The crib and bedding is beautiful. One of my favorite baby name books is 20,000 Names for Baby. It helped me find the right names for my kids. :-)

  5. How exciting! Congratulations. :-) I love having a daughter so far--still in those 1st 10 years. LOL. Those are great name choices. I am partial to Riley, but only you know which name will for best. We decided on family names for our little one.

  6. Congrats!

Babies are so exciting, and it seems like they are in the air recently. :) I love all the names you picked out, but I really love Callie and Maia. Beautiful choices!

I keep telling the hubby that everyone I know is expecting, but he won't cave in. ;)

  7. Congrats!! The book blogging world has become favourite visiting place for storks!! Makes it SO interesting!!!

And yes, you mom is a hottie. So are you!!!

  8. You look beautiful! And I love the bedding...it's kinda Night Circus-ish, with pink instead of red.

  9. Oh...and I meant to say I love the name Callie.

  10. Those other names are nice, but I think you should stick with The Floppy Alienette. It just rolls off the tongue, you know? ;-) But seriously, though, congratulations!

That's a great pic of you and your mom. You're both hotties. With those genes, the Alienette is definitely going to be breaking some hearts. LOL!

  11. You look lovely withn your baby bump, Trisha :D And yes, your mom is beautiful (and so are you)!

  12. Congrats, Trisha. You look FABULOUS! I am so happy for you.

  13. Oh my gosh Trisha!! So freakin' adorable. You are carrying your bump beautifully! My good friend at work is eight months now (so close!) and she's had a pretty horrific pregnancy. She STILL has to take medicine for nausea. Anyways, I always call her a MILF because even though the pregnancy has been rough she's carrying it so good. You just need to make your own tee shirts with really obscene slogans on it.

And I am diggin on Maia.

  14. You look fantastic! Your mother is beautiful, yes, but so are you. I haven't wanted to ask because I know you mentioned being nervous before. Congrats on the alienette, and continued healthy pregnancy to you!

  15. Sandy - I think the grandparents need Christmas gifts for us...maybe bedding. :)

Jill - I know right! Most people think we are sisters.

Amanda - I will try the screenshots today! And I will definitely check out the resale shops around town.

Vasilly - That's so funny! It sounds like we have the opposite problem!

Literary Feline - Yeah, those 10 to 20, teenage girl years sound rough! :)

Allie - LOL! It took Brian and I a long time to decide we wanted kids.

Guatami - Thanks! That's nice to hear.

Jill - Now I really need to read Night Circus.

Megan - I thought of shortening The Floppy Alienette to The Flopette, but still no one thought that was a good name. :)

Ana - Thanks! That's really nice to hear, especially while sporting the extra inches. :)

Kristi - Thanks for the compliment. I certainly appreciate hearing that these days.

Christina - I just met a woman the other day who actually has an anti-nausea machine with her!!! I feel very very lucky to be so smooth sailing.

Picky - Thanks! I'm happy things are going well (obviously). :)

  16. Aww, how exciting! You look great. I like the pointing finger in the second photo :-) That crib -- whoa! Awesome!

  17. Erin - LOL! That's my mom. I love the crib too. I can't really find it for a reasonable price though... :)

  18. Congratulations on discovering that the little one will be a girl! You certainly look wonderful in those pictures! I would also be nonplussed that there seem to be so few selections for clothing, and I am sorry, but maternity clothes that come in extra small sizes is just plain weird. I also really like the name Riley s well. It will be exciting when she is finally here, and you do choose a name! Like Sandy, I think you should totally go for the bedding. It is beyond adorable and very posh looking. Take care of yourself and the little one over there. You will be in my thoughts!

  19. Yay for baby! I'm glad she's healthy and that you're both doing well.

As for the crib, you could probably find some fabric that's similar, and pay a seamstress to make the bedding (or make it yourself, if you're crafty). It would be way cheaper, I imagine.

  20. Yeah for a healthy baby girl! I like Callie because I don't know anyone with that name. As for clothes, have you tried maternity pants, but large women tops? Tops may work for you, byut pants wise, the girl at work said you need the elastic wist thingy. How about Walmart? You never know, they may surprise you.

  21. You look wonderful (and your mom is a total hottie! Good news for you and your Alienette -- you'll probably look just as hot as you reach her age.)

I love your list of names but immediatley felt drawn to Callie.

I'm glad things are going well for you. I had a pretty easy time too after the sleepiness in the beginning.

Thanks for sharing! It is fun to hear about your journey to motherhood.

  22. Oh my LORD, the bubbies are definitely bigger! I wish mine were that size! LOL

But seriously, I'm glad things are going well for you. And I LOVE that crib set - gorgeous!

  23. Wow! I am so excited for you, and you're gorgeous with your swelling belly. Now that my youngest, Trisha, is going on 8, I really miss the baby years. :-) I love the girl's names you have picked.

  24. Congrats! Very exciting!!

  25. Heather - I was pretty shocked at the XS sizes myself. :)

Amy - I actually thought of that too. I would have to pay someone though as that sort of work does not appeal to me at all, at all.

Jenny - I tried some larger tops but ended up looking pretty frumpy because of the bubbies. :)

Jenners - I definitely feel lucky about not being all sick and crappy throughout the pregnancy, and I really hope I continue to be a-ok. :)

Heather - Ha! Believe me, you don't want them that big. It's annoying.

Steph - Thanks Step! That's really nice to hear.

Care - Thanks! I'm really excited.

  26. Oh yea....didn't think about that. Darn it!

  27. Love it!! I'm so glad the screen grabs worked. I love that skeleton one particularly. We have a few like that too. :D

  28. I'm so so sorry for the late comment. But I defintely want to say YAYAYYAYAY!!! I'm so happy for your Trisha and I think soon the twinge of worry will start to subside. When I could feel the baby moving *all the freakin time* I was definitely more relaxed.

Absolutely love the spine picture--I know they're costly but have you thought about doing a 3D sonogram? Definitely a neat experience.

And you look great!! Your hair looks really pretty in the picture. And the bedding is adorable.

And I feel you on the maternity garb. I cried many many times after going shopping (all the same places you tried minus Carson's). Finally I hit up Gap, and they had all their stuff on sale. Really, just wear the same clothes over and over. By the end I was wearing the same four dresses every week.

Books about babies don't change after you've had the baby. I've tried to read a few but then I felt like a bad mom and gave them up. Rather just be clueless as I go along...

    Ok... YAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. A big congratulations to you! Love the names you suggested, especially Riley. And I can definitely understand not wanting to read baby books... sometimes too much information is not a good thing!

  30. I am so late (can I blame that on my baby? ;)) You look fantastic! And so does baby girl. I like Callie the best. My friend's daughter just had a Riley and my cousin has a 13 year old Riley. Both beautiful girls.
I know this sounds silly, but I have a small box full of maternity things in my car that the local shelter wouldn't take (thye only wnated baby stuff) and I'd love to slap a shipping label on them for you. You may hate them all, but hey, they're free :) Just email me if you'd like to take them off my hands (and make more room in my car for more useful stuff!). stacybooks at yahoo
