So after a measly month of blogging - and promising I would keep it simple - I am already jumping on a bandwagon: The Classics Club. I would regale you with the origin story, but I'm pretty sure you all know about it as I'm the newbie here.
General idea: List 50+ classic books you want to read within the next five years. Read them. Review them. Link them on the Classics Club page. Read others' reviews. Sounds great.
I already had a Classics Project in the works. A list of 149 classics - primarily of the dead-white-guy variety that I have sitting on my shelves which I want to read. Awesomely enough, this list fits just perfectly for The Classics Club, so step 1 done. Since I have an inability to stop acquiring books despite the large number of unread books on my shelves, I've no doubt this list will be added to.
Apparently one of the many fun extras is the Spin. The spin number this time around is 20 which means I am challenged to read one of my Classic Irish Lit books, Fardorougha the Miser by William Carlton by April 2. If anyone wants to join me, the book is free from Project Gutenberg. [I recognize that from now on I will need to list 20 of my books, not all 149, but since I missed the deadline, I ran with it.]
A cursory glance at the (amazingly professional) website for The Classics Club tells me that this is a highly interactive group and that there are many side events to participate in. I'm not sure how much I'll be able to do, but I am excited to at least have the opportunity.
Let me know if you are a part of this, and any tips or tricks or favorite events, etc., you have.
Off to read!
I'm not a part of it--my job pretty much requires me to constantly read books that aren't published yet, so the Classics Club is essentially the opposite. But I love read people's posts about their individual challenges. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI signed up for the classics club. And then I forgot about reading classics. After looking at how many short ones are on my list while making my classics spin list I think I need to get on it! Hope you have fun as part of the group. I should participate more than I do...
ReplyDeleteGlad you're joining up with us illustrious Classic Clubbers! I'm like Trish...I'm involved, but not as much as I should be. I really need to start participating in their monthly meme questions. The months always get away from me. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteAs one of the moderators behind the club I'm always thrilled when people join in the fun! The nice part is that you can participate as much or as little as you want and you can change your list as you go. It's very relaxed.
ReplyDeleteI'm one of the one's that joins in most club events. I love them as they inspire me to keep on reading classics in the presence of lots of wonderful people. All the discussions are respectful, interesting and thoughtful.
ReplyDeleteI particular love the spins as a way of seeing other people's blogs and what they're reading.
Good luck - hope to see your name pop up regularly :-)
