Top Ten Books About Friendship

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. To learn more about Top Ten Tuesday or see the list of future topics click here.

This week's Top Ten covers books about friendship, and at first, I was hem-hawing about participating as I could not think of a single book that fit. Then John Green popped into my head, and I was off. After 16 books stormed out of my brain - hey, I totally get brainstorm now - I realized I better quit. So these may not be my top ten as much as the best of the first 16 to pop into my brain.

Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson
will grayson, will grayson by David Levithan and John Green

Holes by Louis Sachar
Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck
v

The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows
Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood by Rebecca Wells

The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick
The Lord of the Rings series by J.R.R. Tolkien
So those are my top-of-my-mind 10 books that say something (beautiful, moving, sweet, deep, insane) about friendship. I would love to hear what you guys come up with on "friendship books".

  1. Great choices! Some of these I wouldn't have thought about because they stick out in my mind for other reasons. Example: Hugo Cabret, Guernsey. I've loved several of these and need to do a spot of re-reading one of these days.

    1. It's funny you mention re-reading. As I was making this list, I wanted to re-read all of them. :)

  2. I chose LOTR too. Frodo and Sam's friendship and Legolas and Gimli's friendship are the the best!

  3. Great choices. I have only seen the LOTR films but the friendships in that are absolutely amazing. That would have made the list if I had read it ;) The Boy in the Striped Pajamas broke my heart, such a beautiful book. Nice list :) Here's my TTT.

  4. It didn't occur to me to put LOTR on my list, but that's definitely a perfect choice. Of Mice and Men is a great one too, except for how it's all sad and everything. Excellent list!

    1. I kept going back and forth with LotR and HP, but decided the adult stuff needed some support on this list.

  6. Well. When I first saw this topic I couldn't think of any friendship books off the top of my head. Except Beaches, which I haven't read. Now I'm doing a COMPLETE HEADDESK. Duh. Yes yes yes, all these. I really need to read Of Mice and Men.
