Giveaway: Dracula, My Love

What if you were in love with an immortal being
who everyone you knew was determined to destroy?

Syrie James approaches Bram Stoker’s classic Dracula with a breathtaking new perspective–as, for the first time, Mina Harker records the shocking story of her scandalous seduction and sexual rebirth.

Although everyone she knows fears Count Dracula and is pledged to destroy him, Mina sees a side to him that the others cannot: a tender, romantic side; a man who’s taken full advantage of his gift of immortality to expand his mind and talents; a man who is deeply in love, and who may not be evil after all. Soon, they are connected in a way she never thought humanly possible.

Yet to surrender is surely madness, for to be with him could end her life. It may cost Mina all she holds dear, but to make her choice she must learn everything she can about the remarkable origins and unique, sensuous powers of this man, this exquisite monster, this … Dracula! (from publisher)

Dracula, My Love: The Secret Journals of Mina Harker by Syrie James first popped up on my radar when Nicole from Linus's Blanket wrote a stellar review of the book.  Nicole writes that "Dracula, My Love did an excellent job in communicating what the time looked like and felt like, how people dressed and behaved, and the roles assigned to the sexes at the time."  Then Allie at Hist-Fic Chick wrote another stellar review, and she also mentioned that the book tackles the "Victorian view of decorum" and gender roles. History, social customs, gender roles, and Dracula (the vampire who could destroy Edward, rip off his appendages, and beat Jacob to death with them).  Excellent.

I am currently reading The New Annotated Dracula by Leslie S. Klinger, and I'll be reading Dracula, My Love right after! It's geeky vampire goodness. You should give it a try. :)

When TLC Tours contacted me about a giveaway, tweet-up, and review copy, I was thrilled. And now tons of others can be thrilled too since this is a book giveaway extravaganza! Sign up here to win a copy or head over to one of the other sites on the schedule.

You can also win a copy by participating in the Vampire Lit Tweet-Up where "we will be talking about all things vampire, and giving away copies of the book every ten minutes or so".

The contest will close on August 13 once the Tweet-Up starts!

  1. I hope that you enjoy this one when you get to it! I wan to try to read Dracula after I finish the Karen Essex novel Dracula in Love. I hope these ladies don't ruin it for me!

  2. Nicole - I'm really looking forward to it. I figured it best to read Dracula first since it had been so long since I'd read it last; plus how could I resist the annotated edition with an intro by Neil Gaiman?

  3. Briana - Eh, totally forgot about that. I'll ask the powers that be when they need the winners name. My bet is they'll want it by the coming Friday.

  4. I have a very hard time seeing Dracula as at all romantic after visiting Romania and seeing how cruel and dispicable the historical "Dracula" was. Just can't do it.

  5. Lenore - That stinks! Really though, that whole Vlad the Impaler is Dracula thing isn't true; at least according to the annotated Dracula I'm reading. The term Dracula meant son of the dragon in Romania, and many strong, violent men were given that title. Vlad and Dracula really don't share many characteristics. I am, of course, assuming you meant Vlad?

  6. I adore the Dracula story from Bram Stoker and love reading variations or spin-offs of it. I just finished Dracula The Un-Dead (written by Dacre Stoker, a direct descendent of Bram Stoker) and didn't like it. I need to read something that is a spin-off, so to speak, and that is good!

  7. Coffee and a Book Chick - I have never read a spin-off of Dracula, but I'm really looking forward to this one. Mina is such a fascinating character.
