Something You Should Read

While I haven't been active around the blogosphere, being lucky to post once a week or so, I am still lurking around both book blogs and news sources. Lately, I've found a few articles or posts that I want to highlight as SOMETHING YOU SHOULD READ. So here's a quick round-up of reading for you to check out:

The Dark Knight Rises is apparently inspired by A Tale of Two Cities by Dickens. Now I must read the book - like Nolan, I thought I already had but was mistaken....

Andi, over at Estella's Revenge, wrote an awesome post about Fifty Shades and Female Readers.

James at Ready When You Are, C.B. introduced me to books written in disappearing ink...

I found out that my Meyers-Briggs personality type - INTP - is associated with Virginia Woolf's To the Lighthouse, and that in literature "INTPs can best be described as mad scientists - they're incredibly intelligent but also eccentric, and may become preoccupied with ideas but have a hard time executing them. In "To the Lighthouse," Mrs. Ramsay's philosophical husband, Mr. Ramsay, is often found taking long walks by the sea, contemplating his fate." Love it.

Over at the New York Times, an article asks Is Philosophy Literature? The debate over how to define and classify literature is one that really fascinates me.

Trish wrote a thoughtful post on being a working mother over at Love, Laughter, and a Touch of Insanity.

And finally, Letters of Note featured a letter written by Marie Antoinette to her sister-in-law and to her children bidding them farewell eight hours before her execution.

I hope you enjoyed these! I might try doing this every now and again if for no other reason than to let you all know that I am still alive and reading. :)

  1. Thanks for the shout-out! I need to visit several of these links. I'm especially interested to read Letters of Note's feature on the Marie Antoinette letter. OH, and A Tale of Two Cities kicks ass. That makes me more likely to see Batman!

  4. Philosophy? Urgh. That was my least favorite class in college.

Wait...it might be tie between that and statistics.

  5. I hadn't heard anything about the Dickens/Batman connection. Now I'm even more excited to see the movie.
